The tales of Africa
We want to expose, motivate, empower and create opportunities for writers
Competition
The theme of this inaugural competition is: Small towns, large forests, dark caves and their mysteries.
Our Goals
We want to expose, motivate, empower and create opportunities for writers - letting the world know exactly who should be telling the tales of Africa.
In 1960, as independence began to dawn across the continent, only 9% of the African population was literate (Gibbs and Mapanje).
84% of young people read for leisure daily to weekly (Siror).
Young people are likely to read what their friends and teachers recommend (Siror).
That survey indicated that the African continent consumes in excess of 12% of all books produced in the world, but contributes less than 3%. (Association for Development of Education in Africa and the African Publishers Network )
